What is a whale's diet
Killer whales are top-level predators in the ocean. Not every whales specie exhibit the same diet pattern in that baleen whales have different nutrients requirements whereas toothed whales have different. Type A whales eat mostly Antarctic minke whales and have also been observed hunting southern elephant seals. Large type B whales eat mainly seals, especially Weddell seals, and also hunt minke whales. Little is known about the diet of type D killer whales, however, they have been observed preying on Patagonian toothfish ( Dissostichus eleginoides ) caught on longlines. Killer whales have also been reported to eat many other types of animals including leatherback sea turtles, dugongs, moose, and penguins and other seabirds. The overall diet consists of shrimp, fish, plankton, crabs, krill, larvae, sea lions, walruses, sharks, seals, birds and other smaller whales. Are you nosy enough to know what do whales eat. One of the most common methods of hunting whales exercise is echo-location. It also tells the whale whether the object is in motion or stable. Whales are by far the largest living mammal on the planet earth. They may not stop producing sounds unless they find their prey. In many parts of the world, killer whales prey on fishes or marine mammals, but not both. It so happens that whales send out some sonic waves or busy noises that bounce off of the fish or any other nearby object thereby indicating the exact position.

These largest mammals employ several hunting techniques to seize their prey. Minke whales are hunted by the North Atlantic type 2 killer whales in the northern hemisphere and by the Antarctic type A and large type B ecotypes in the southern hemisphere. Yet, individual ecotypes or populations are often extremely specialized. Each killer whale ecotype has a fairly specific diet. Type C killer whales mostly eat Antarctic toothfish ( Dissostichus mawsoni ). The feeding habits of resident and transient whales of the eastern North Pacific Ocean differ. Globally, killer whales appear to have an extremely diverse diet. Worldwide, killer whales have been observed preying on more than 140 species of animals, including many species of bony fish, sharks and rays, and 50 different species of marine mammals. For more than 50 years, we have been a leading theme park and entertainment company delivering personal, interactive and educational experiences that blend imagination with nature and enable our guests to celebrate, connect with and care for the natural world we share. Killer whales are the largest predator of warm-blooded animals alive today. Small type B killer whales have been observed hunting penguins and are believed to mainly eat fishes. Baleen whales are known to utilize a hunting method, filter feeding in which they tend to swim around while opening their mouths and filter food through their baleen plates. Antarctic type A killer whales have been observed hunting southern elephant seals. The five forms of Antarctic killer whales differ in their diet.
